In Laurinburg, there is always an event or festival to be planned and

held. Our “Festival Season” kicks off each fall with  Kuumba. Held the

end of September, Kuumba means "creativity" and is a celebration of  African history and culture and feature music, dancing and food.



Complementing Kuumba is the Scotland County Highland Games.  Held the first weekend of October at the John Blue Grounds, the games draw thousands of people, Scots and others alike, and have quickly become one of the primary games of the Southeast United States.

The season continues with the John Blue Cotton Festival.  A Scotland County tradition, the festival is a heritage celebration of the life in rural North Carolina.

Festival Month closes with the Storytelling Festival.  Held the third weekend of October, the Storytelling Festival brings internationally-renowned tellers and thousands of audience members. The festival is sponsored by the Storytelling and Arts Center located in downtown Laurinburg.  The center hosts a litany of programs throughout the year to promote arts and entertainment in Scotland County.

While these event celebrate our heritage, numerous other events are held throughout the year bring together our community for fellowship and giving.  These include neighborhood festivals, community like the Laurinburg After Five Music Series and countless events at Cypress Bend Vineyards. 

Laurinburg/Scotland County offers great opportunities to get involved in local organizations and events, many of which are
tied to our cultures and take advantage of
our beautiful outdoors.
