The Soul Of The Carolinas
Laurinburg/
Scotland County
Scotland County is home of the U.S. Army's Golden Knights Parachute
Team. With Fort Bragg and Pope AFB both located just north of the
county, the Golden Knights take advantage of the Laurinburg/Maxton airport to train. Weather permitting, jumping takes place most mornings.
Few people associate Scotland County with horses. But with the St. Andrews University Equestrian Center located in Laurinburg, residents have the opportunity to observe one of the premier equestrian programs in the country.
If you would rather take part than watch, then Scotland County provides an array of outdoor activities.
- The Scotland County bicycle route provides a 147-mile mapped system that uses lightly traveled roads with numerous points of interests.
- If you would rather be on the water, then a trip down the Lumber River may be just for you. The River is the only black water river designated a National Wild and Scenic River, and is one of the state's "Ten Natural Wonders." The river also hosts many events including the annual "Chalk Banks Challenge Homemade Raft Race."
- And what would the Carolinas be without golf. Like our more famous neighbor to the immediate north (Pinehurst) - Scotland County offer the very best in Carolina golf.
Scotland County is blessed with a key feature of
the Carolinas...the beautiful outdoors - which provide fun and many unique activities.
